The purpose of the Maryland State Dance Team Association is to continually advance dance through recognition of the ever-changing landscape of the sport by:

​

• Fostering the professional development of dance team coaches

• Facilitating a positive, working relationship between dance team coaches and their local or state administrators  

• Establishing and implementing state-wide dance rules and safety guidelines for dance teams and to encourage adherence to rules established by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

• Providing dance team coaches equitable opportunities in training, education, and credentialing

• Establishing and implementing an appropriate scoresheet for use across the state in conjunction with a developed judges training and credentialing program
